Pre-Kindergarten Lottery for 2010-11
It is anticipated that the district will receive funding to accept 40 Pre-K students for the 2010-11 school year. In order to be eligible for Pre-Kindergarten, a child must be four years of age by December 1, 2010.
If more than 40 students apply, a public lottery will be conducted, and the first 40 students selected will be admitted. Students whose names are drawn after the fortieth student will be placed on an alternate list in the order that their names are drawn. Parents are welcome to attend and witness the lottery drawing.
In order to participate in the lottery, parents must complete the lottery application form, which can be obtained from Ms. Tucci in the school’s main office between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., or can be downloaded by clicking on the following link: Pre-K Lottery ApplicationFor10-11
Completed lottery application forms must be returned to Ms. Tucci, Springs School Main Office, by the end of the school day on March 12, 2010. Parents of the students who are selected in the lottery will be required to fill out a full registration packet for their child within one month of notification of their child’s selection. If a completed application packet is not received by that date, the Pre-K seat will be given to an alternate.
The registration packet includes: Child's Birth Certificate Child's Immunization Records Proof of Child's Last Physical Exam Parent Photo ID Parent Proof of Residence
Owners: Property Tax Bill & Utility Bill
Renters: Notarized Affidavit of Residency and
Notarized Affidavit from Landlord and a Copy of Utility Bill.
Actual implementation of the Pre-K program is dependent upon receipt of funding through the NYS Education Department.
For more information, please contact Ms. Tucci, in the main office, or Principal Eric Casale at 324-0144.

Free & Reduced Price Breakfast/Lunch Program
As you may have heard, Springs School is working to implement a breakfast program for the current school year, and we are hoping to add on a lunch program next school year. Children from households with an annual income below the figures indicated on the chart below would be eligible for reduced price or free breakfasts and lunches.
The greater the number of children who qualify for free or reduced price meals, the greater will be our probability of success in establishing a food service program. Consequently, we need your help in either filling out a free and reduced lunch application if you qualify, or in encouraging others who qualify to do so. Free and reduced price applications are available from Ms. Maritza Santos, School Social Worker ( 631-324-0144 631-324-0144 , X110; msantos@springs.k12.ny.us). Ms. Santos will also provide assistance in completing the form.
1. Would my child be eligible for free or reduced price lunch/breakfast?
If your family income is below the amount indicated on the chart below, your child would qualify for reduced price breakfast and lunch, and may also qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

2. Will other people know about my family’s finances if I fill out an application?
Be assured that the information you provide will be kept strictly confidential and will only be shared with those few individuals who need to know in order to operate the program. All children who are free and reduced price participants will have an account number when purchasing meals -- just like the children who will be paying full price -- so that other children and adults will not know which students are receiving meals for free or at a reduced price.
3. Do I need to fill out an application for each child?
No, use one Free and Reduced Price School Application for all students in your household. We cannot approve an application that is not complete, so be sure to fill out all required information, or get assistance from Ms. Santos. Return the completed application in person or by mail to: Ms. Maritza Santos, Social Worker, Springs School, 48 School Street, East Hampton, NY 11937 ( 631-324-0144 631-324-0144 , X110; msantos@springs.k12.ny.us).
4. Is it only those families with incomes below the figures on the chart who qualify?
In addition to children from households with incomes below the figures listed above, children getting Food Stamps or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and most foster children can get free meals regardless of income.
5. Can homeless, runaway, and migrant children get free meals?
Please call Ms. Santos (324-0144, X110) to see if your child qualifies.
6. I get WIC. Can my child(ren) get free meals?
Children in households participating in WIC (Women, Infants and Children Program) may be eligible for free or reduced price meals. Please fill out an application.
7. If I don't qualify now, may I apply later?
Yes. You may apply at any time during the school year. You should apply if your household size goes up, if your income goes down, or if you start receiving Food Stamps or TANF. If you don’t qualify by income but lose your job, you may also qualify at that time. Contact Ms. Santos to discuss.
8. What if I disagree with the school's decision about my application?
First talk to Ms. Santos. If you still disagree with the determination, there is an appeal process you may follow.
9. May I apply if someone in my household is not a U.S. citizen?
Yes. You or your child(ren) do not have to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for free or reduced price meals.
10. Who should I include as members of my household?
You must include yourself and all children who live with you. You must also include all people living in your household, related or not (such as grandparents, other relatives, or friends).
11. What if my income is not always the same?
List the amount that you normally earn. For example, if you normally earn $1000 each month, but you missed some work last month and only received $900, put down that you get $1000 per month. If you normally get overtime, include it, but don’t include overtime if you get it only some of the time.
12. I am in the military; do I include my housing allowance as income?
If your housing is part of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative, do not include your housing allowance as income. All other allowances must be included in your gross income.
If you have other questions or need help, please call or write Ms. Santos at 631-324-0144 631-324-0144 , X110. msantos@springs.k12.ny.us).
